PROHIBITED & RESTRICTED ITEMS POLICY

A. STRICTLY PROHIBITED ITEMS

The following items must NOT be registered or transported under any circumstances:

1. Financial Instruments & Monetary Items

  • Cash, legal tender, banknotes, coins

  • Traveller’s (Google it to see how it looks) and Signed cheques

  • Bonds, stocks, and other negotiable securities

We are not a financial institution and cannot transport monetary instruments.

2. Precious Minerals & Natural Resources

  • Raw gold and silver

  • Loose precious or semi-precious stones

  • Unprocessed mineral resources

3. Perishable & Food Items

  • Fresh vegetables and fruits

  • Smoked or cooked meat/fish (especially if not completely dry or with foul smell)

  • Frozen foods (e.g., chicken, turkey, fish, dairy products)

  • Red oil (due to its high staining properties)

4. Drugs, Narcotics & Controlled Substances

  • Cannabis/weed, marijuana, ganja

  • Cocaine, methamphetamine, skunk, “Canadian loud”

  • Depressants, hallucinogens, stimulants

  • Tramadol and other controlled substances

  • Vapes and related substances

5. Weapons, Explosives & Dangerous Objects

  • Firearms and parts (including assault rifles)

  • Ammunition and explosives (including replicas)

  • Tasers and air guns

  • Sharp objects (machetes, cutlasses, knives, razor blades, needles, pins, etc.)

6. Hazardous,Auto & Flammable Materials

  • Petrol (PMS), diesel, fuel

  • Dry ice

  • Corrosive substances (acid, poison, certain chemicals – liquid or powder)

  • Flammable or combustible materials 

  • Second-hand tyres (Tokunbo tyres)

Special Notes:

  • Filled gas cylinders and lighters are prohibited. Gas cylinders must be completely emptied away from the office before registration.

  • Generators must be fully drained of fuel, diesel, oil, or any liquid before registration.

7. Live Animals & Biological Materials

  • Live animals of any kind (dogs, goats, rams, poultry, etc.)

  • Insects, larvae, pupae

  • Clinical or biological samples (bodily fluids, tissues)

8. Endangered Species & Wildlife Products

  • Elephant tusks and ivory of any kind

  • Donkey skins

  • Pangolin scales

  • Rhino horns

  • Animal trophies of any type

9. Medicines & Medical Items

  • Unprescribed injections (without a valid prescription)

  • Medicines without NAFDAC Registration Number, LOT No., or Batch No.

Approved medications should be described as “Medication,” not “Drugs.”

10. Fragile Construction & Breakable Items

  • All mirrors

  • Tempered glass and windscreens

  • Photo frames with glass or weak frames

  • Tiles, marbles, ceramic plates, and similar merchandise

Photo frames without glass must be properly carton-packaged and/or caged before acceptance. Do not register frames with weak wood. The wood must be very strong and you can feel it during inspection.

11. Cultural/Spiritual Items

  • African traditional/spiritual items (e.g., juju)

  • Liquid spiritual substances

12. Ghana-Specific Restrictions

For parcels destined to Ghana:

  • Medications (liquid or tablets or supplements)

  • Locally made medicines e.g. herbal drinks without authorized names

  • Locally made Skincare products without labels

  • Heavy Household items for cargo
  • Mannequins
  • Medical instrument for Ghana route, e.g. Syringe for injection, surgical blade, cannular..etc.

Always seek guidance from your Regional Supervisor, BOM, or Compliance before registering Ghana-bound parcels.

B. RESTRICTED ITEMS (CONDITIONAL SHIPMENT)

The following items may be shipped only under strict regulatory conditions, required approvals, and proper documentation:

  • Pharmaceutical products (controlled and non-controlled)

  • Drones

  • Military wares

  • Alcohol (commercial quantities)

  • Used clothing (bale materials)

  • Used foreign furniture

These items must not be accepted without prior clearance from Compliance and confirmation of all required regulatory approvals. If you do not know whether you can or cannot register a particular type of item, kindly ask your regional supervisor.

Note: When you are unsure, consult your Regional or Station Supervisor before proceeding with the parcel registration.

Kindly note that the items below need better handling before registration 

  • Standing fan & Standing sewing machine- these 2 need to be completely decoupled by the sender before they can be registered. If there are any loose parts, e.g.. screws, bolts, Keys etc. then they should be placed in a GMB and registered as another item in the PID.
  • TV(not to be tested in our station), Microwave, Solar Panel, Gas Cooker with glass, Table top cooker with glass, Washing machine with glass, Mainly very fragile items, need to be caged before movement. All must be well inspected in front of the customer before registration. Ensure dents, cracks, scratches are indicated when registering.
